Artist Statement
I am a visual artist playing with just about every 2d medium. While I enjoy working in different styles and subjects, my art is consistently grounded in aesthetic pleasure.
I use line, color, and texture to explore the moments when movement becomes stillness; the intimate is suddenly universal; and the familiar transforms into the treasured. I approach every piece as a tiny glimpse into a larger narrative, reaching into the viewers' own memories and imaginations to complete the story.
I believe we exist to experience joy, even through pain, sorrow, and boredom, and my work is an expression of that.
Artist Bio
Kat Leznik was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, but grew up mostly in New York (East Village). For the last 13 years, she has made her home in Brooklyn, currently at the edge of Red Hook. Kat's work is informed by her adopted hometown, the big city/small world feel of New York City, and the inherent tension in the city's disjointed interconnectedness.
Since graduating from Parsons with a BFA in Integrated Design Curriculum with concentrations in Illustration and Communication Design, Kat has spent more than a dozen years working as a designer in various tech startups. Although she enjoys the challenging and strategic work of building and testing interactive products as a UX designer, Kat has recently felt a strong pull to get her hands literally dirty working in traditional analog media.
At this moment Kat is happily playing with markers, paints and chalks, growing creatively, and accepting that she is an artist.
